COVID-19 arrangements

Latest Covid-19 restrictions

Following the government’s announcement of a four-week lockdown in England, until Wednesday 2 December we will only be permitted to allow people to enter the church for private individual prayer and funerals .

Private Prayer

The church will be open at the following times for private prayer:
Monday – Friday 9am – 10.50am
Saturday – 9am – 10.30am and 5pm – 7pm
Sunday – 8am – 12.30pm

Please see our Live Masses page for details of upcoming broadcasts from Our Lady’s during this time. Mass is also being streamed from St George’s Cathedral as well as other parish churches: see those offering live streaming.

Please Note: The following Mass arrangements will most likely reapply when we have permission to worship together again.

The church will close between Mass times for cleaning.

Mass arrangements

We are instructed to keep Masses as brief as possible. Sermons will be just a few sentences and we are to omit the Prayers of the Faithful.

Communion is in one kind, into the hand (extended to full reach) at the very end of the Mass, and communicants are instructed not to return to their seats.

The church will not be accessible to anyone not attending the upcoming Mass, private devotions should be said at home, and the building will be open for private prayer mid-week as previously advertised.

You do not have to keep your hands in your pockets, but try to keep touching fixtures and fittings to a minimum. The backs of all the pews will be sanitised between each Mass, along with the secure offerings box which will be at the back of the church as no collections will be taken. The Easter offerings will be received on a publicised date (probably in September). There will also be no Offertory Procession.

Movement once in the church should be kept to a minimum, especially at the busiest Masses, and so the votive candles will NOT be accessible for Sunday Masses.

Mass attendance guidelines

Fr Keith guides you through the steps for attending Mass.

Track and Trace

In order to comply with the Government’s track & trace guidelines, please bring your phone to Mass and text your name to this parish telephone number: 07548 868418. This will enable us to keep a record and contact number for those in attendance each day if needed. Many thanks for your cooperation.

Face masks

Face masks must be worn in all places of worship. We are unable to supply masks for everyone each week, so respectfully ask that you provide your own, and wear it every time you attend Mass until further notice.

Live Mass

Live and pre-recorded Masses from Our Lady’s can be viewed on our Live Mass page [please note, there are no live streams from Our Lady’s during the month of August]. You can also see details of other Southwark churches that are live-streaming Masses on this page
